Baby-Led Weaning

The No-Stress Guide for Moms Who Are Already Tired

Baby-Led Weaning Without the Stress

If you’ve found yourself staring at a banana wondering if it’s too slippery, cutting toast into six different shapes because Google couldn’t agree, or hovering over your baby while they gagged on a piece of broccoli… welcome. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

This page is here to make that a little easier. You’ll find simple first foods, practical tips to ease your worries, and my favorite products that make mealtime feel a whole lot less chaotic.

Here’s the truth: your baby doesn’t need perfect meals—they need opportunities to explore food, build confidence, and learn alongside you.

What exactly is BLW?

Baby-led weaning (BLW) is an approach to introducing solid foods that allows babies to feed themselves from the very beginning, rather than being spoon-fed purées. Instead of focusing on how much they eat, BLW encourages babies to explore different tastes, textures, and shapes while developing the skills they need to eat independently.

Many families begin around six months of age, once their baby can sit upright with good head control, shows interest in food, and is able to bring objects to their mouth. Every baby develops at their own pace, so it’s always a good idea to check with your pediatrician if you have questions about readiness.

The best part? Your baby can often eat modified versions of the same foods the rest of the family is enjoying—meaning less work for you and more opportunities to share meals together.

Before You Go Down the Rabbit Hole…

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Every baby learns at their own pace, and every meal doesn’t have to be perfectly balanced. Baby-led weaning is about giving your little one safe opportunities to explore food—not creating Instagram-worthy plates.

Start with one meal a day, keep it simple, and remember that progress matters more than perfection. You’ve got this, and I’m here to make mealtime feel a little less chaotic.

  • Simple foods are enough.
  • Mess means learning.
  • Gagging and choking are not the same thing.
  • Your baby won’t eat everything—and that’s okay.
  • Every meal is practice, not a test.
